Update on Privatized Military Housing Issue

One week ago, our organization, the Military Family Advisory Network (MFAN) released a report on the condition of privatized military housing. We want to take a moment to provide a brief update. But first, a sincere thank you to the thousands of brave military families who trusted us with your stories. We brought your experiences and feedback with us to the highest levels of government and to the media so that everyone can understand the urgency of the safety issues facing many military families. It is important to note that MFAN was not alone in this effort. The groundswell of attention around this issue was created by many voices working together with a single goal: quality housing for military families.

This isn’t over. Over the next three months MFAN’s research team, led by Dr. Shelley Kimball, will apply qualitative research methodology to code the thousands of responses shared. We will identify geographic hot spots and specific issues experienced in those locations, the performance (good and bad) of individual privatized housing companies, and also quantify the instances of the more egregious conditions of mold, lead, pests, pesticides, and water damage.

It is our stated mission to connect military families with leaders and decision makers who have been entrusted with the wellbeing of military families, and we take this responsibility seriously. Thank you for trusting us with your stories and your support. Since the issues won’t be solved overnight, please know that we are in this for the long haul. We will continue to keep you posted on the progress made.
