Emily is an award-winning journalist and the partner of an active-duty Air Force service member. She and her partner are both very involved in their local and national LGBTQ civilian and LGBTQ military communities, often volunteering for nonprofit organizations and participating in community events. Their collective experiences have led Emily to become connected with the LGBTQ military community both online and in-person, which she has found so valuable, especially as someone who is somewhat new to military life.
After working as a professional in-house writer for over a decade, Emily went out on her own as a full-time freelancer in November 2017 and has found success as an entrepreneur. Her main areas of expertise are personal finance, small business, caregiving, and LGBTQ topics. She periodically utilizes this platform to spread awareness about issues facing the LGBTQ military community.
Emily holds a Bachelor of Science in Radio-TV-Film/Communications from the University of Texas – Austin. In June 2019, she received the Excellence in Long Form Journalism Award from the NLGJA – The Association of LGBTQ Journalists. In 2017, she also started a blog, ProfilesinPride.com, where she publishes weekly profiles of inspiring LGBTQ people.
