Exceptional Family Member Program

Military families with special needs can find support through the Department of Defense’s Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP), including child care, medical equipment, medical benefits, support groups, and financial aid.

  • Military OneSource – A DoD-funded program that serves as military families’ 24/7 connection to information, answers, and support. Military OneSource offers a MilLife Guide about the EFMP program, information on utilizing program benefits, and service-specific information.  
  • EFMP & Me – An online tool that helps families navigate EFMP processes and utilize the support programs offered. The online tool is customizable, based on your role, and provides access to checklists and other resources.  

respite care

If you are the primary caregiver for a service member who has suffered a serious injury in the line of duty, you may be eligible for respite care through TRICARE. This benefit includes skilled nursing and short-term care to provide you with respite.
